Acoustic Deconstruction of 2626 Bancroft Way
2626 Bancroft Way is a Brutalist masterpiece by architect Mario Ciampi that exhibits exceptional acoustic character. It was shuttered with an uncertain future on December 21, 2014. Jacqueline Kiyomi Gork and Zackery Belanger collaborated to study and collect a representation of the building’s acoustics, and commissioned artists to interpret the data. In listening to these interpretations the goal is not try to experience the building’s sound. Instead, listeners are to allow the music to evoke the realization that, without standing within its concrete walls, you never will. Little planet image by J. Parkman Carter.
