The Detroit Sound Conservancy’s (growing) library needed a temporary home. Zackery offered to help, and he and collaborator Misha Volf used the opportunity to study the acoustic influence of books on a modernist space. Books are excellent acoustic objects that weathered modernism’s decimation of ornament, and are especially effective at diffusing and absorbing sound when assembled in a diverse array of sizes.
