A 2016 New Museum commission of Anri Sala’s work “Answer Me” was to result in the scrapping of thousands of melamine foam wedges at the end of its run. Zackery and his collaborator, Benjamin Chadabe, diverted the wedges from the landfill by hiring two semi trucks to show up in Manhattan during takedown. One was bound for Detroit’s new El Club, and the other upstate, where the wedges were sliced and diverted to multiple projects. A U-haul full of unused wedges may still be out there somewhere.
